Does it actually fix the scratch, or just hide it?
It fixes what makes the scratch visible. A scratch in finished wood is a groove filled with air; the air is what your eye sees. The oil displaces the air and the beeswax seals the groove, so light passes through the way it does on the rest of the surface. Nothing is hidden under pigment β€” there's no pigment in the tin.
How deep a scratch can it fix?

Why doesn't it need color matching?
